I have been affected by identity theft, not once, but twice over the last 5 years. It is not a fun
process to go through, signing affidavit after affidavit trying to clear my name. To this day, I still wonder if I will be struck again. You live with identity theft for a long time after you find out about it.There are many things you can do to keep the crooks away, including shredding documents, protecting important papers and valuables in safety deposit boxes and safes, being smart and deleting any questionable emails you receive.
Sometime however, it is not enough. Criminals have so many ways to get to your information these days, it is near impossible to be completely protected. Protection from identity theft is possible however through the services of Lifelock. If you have not seen their commercial, check it out on my Squidoo page. They are so confident of their services that their CEO publicly broadcast his Social Security Number all over the city! See it here: http://www.squidoo.com/protectionidentitytheft
